TAMPEREEN KORKEAKOULUSAATIO SR (TAU), Finland
Tampere University is one of the most multidisciplinary universities in Finland, uniting research and education across the fields of technology, health, and society. Known for its excellence in teaching and research, the University collaborates with hundreds of institutions and organizations worldwide. Its vibrant community includes approximately 22,500 students and 4,200 staff members representing over 80 countries.
Multidisciplinary research at Tampere University is conducted across the boundaries of scientific fields. The University hosts more than 100 active research groups and centres, including Centres of Excellence focused on diverse topics such as body-on-chip research and game cultures. With over 2,800 researchers, the institution advances both fundamental and applied research, aiming to develop solutions that address global challenges such as climate change, sustainability, and well-being.
In UPRISE, the Finnish Hub for Development and Validation of Integrated Approaches (FHAIVE) will analyse the generated multi-omics datasets to map patterns of both short- and long-term molecular dysregulation in fetal development upon maternal exposure to ultrafine particles (UFP) and micro- and nanoplastics (MNP). Epigenomic and transcriptomic data will be integrated to support in silico modelling approaches, such as Adverse Outcome Pathways (AOPs), enabling the identification of multi-scale alterations in both in vitro and ex vivo samples. Advanced systems biology techniques will be employed to prioritise gene communities with coordinated expression, particularly those involved in key biological processes disrupted by exposure.
